Our Practice in Grundy

Dr. Amanda Umlandt joined the Virginia Eyecare Clinic team in July 2017. She is the Virginia Eyecare Clinic’s Clinical Director, Residency Program Supervisor, and Extern Preceptor. She is also an adjunct faculty member with the Pennsylvania College of Optometry at Salus University, the Kentucky College of Optometry at Pikeville University, and the Appalachian College of Pharmacy.

Originally from Iowa, Dr. Umlandt attended undergraduate and optometry school at Ferris State University in Big Rapids, Michigan. She completed an optometric residency program in ocular disease in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Dr. Umlandt provides full ocular health and vision care for the entire family as well as emergency, low vision, infant, and toddler eye care. She participates in the national InfantSEE screening program. ​Since her residency, she has practiced in Virginia for more than 7 years.

Dr. Umlandt is a member of the Virginia Optometric Association (VOA) board of trustees and is the Young O.D. Advocate for VOA. She is a member of the American Optometric Association and is a Fellow of the American Academy of Optometry and the Virginia Academy of Optometry.

Dr. Umlandt was named the 2018 Vanguard of the Year award winner by the Virginia Optometric Association. The award recognizes the Young Optometrist of the Year in Virginia. She was selected for her leadership, innovative thinking, executive and organizational skills, offering of new ideas, substantive contributions, and effort to the practice as well as to the VOA and community, civic, or other activities.

In the Grundy community where the Virginia Eyecare Clinic is located, Dr. Umlandt is a member of the Buchanan County Chamber of Commerce board of directors, the Grundy Woman’s Club, and a regular volunteer at Remote Area Medical Clinics in Buchanan and surrounding communities.

Dr. Umlandt has participated in optometry/medical mission trips to Guyana, South America (2010) and San Carlos, Mexico (2008). She enjoys being outdoors as well as running, reading, cooking, and playing with her Labrador retrievers.

Dr. Umlandt is excited about the future of Virginia Eyecare Clinic: “I’m very excited for everything the future holds for our clinic. With our residency program getting off the ground in 2018 and externs beginning to rotate through in the Spring of 2019, I’m faced with new challenges every day, and I love it—all of this in addition to doing what I truly love, and that is taking care of our patients.”

Dr. Dominique Fulk grew up on the beaches in Bradenton, Florida and graduated with her Bachelor of Science from Auburn University in 2018. She graduated from the Kentucky College of Optometry in 2022, where she was active in the student government as a student ambassador.
Upon graduation, Dr. Fulk received the Good-Lite Pediatric vision award based on her demonstration of a high passion and excellence in pediatrics and binocular vision. She attained her student fellowship through the American Academy of Optometry.
Dr. Fulk began working at the Virginia Eye Care Clinic during her fourth-year externship rotation and is excited to be back to continue learning and treating patients in Buchanan County and beyond. Throughout her year-long residency, she performed full ocular health and vision care for the entire family, as well as emergency, low vision, infant, and toddler eye care.
When she is not at the clinic, Dr. Fulk enjoys spending time with her husband, Jesse, and Goldendoodle, Teddy, where they currently reside in Pikeville, Kentucky. Dr. Fulk is completing a year-long residency in primary care with an emphasis on family practice and ocular disease at Virginia Eyecare Clinic. Her program is expected to conclude on June 30, 2023.

Tessa Amburgey is a clinical optician at Virginia Eyecare Clinic. She scribes for the doctor during exams and continues with the patient through their experience in the office. Tessa is cross-trained to manage the schedule, check patients in and out, and manage patient flow through the office. She and her fiance, a student at the Appalachian College of Pharmacy, reside in Oakwood.

Amber Blankenship is a clinical optician at Virginia Eyecare Clinic. She scribes for the doctor during exams and continues with patients through their optical experience. Amber is cross-trained to check patients in and out and provide insurance support. A lifelong resident of Buchanan County, she is a 2015 graduate of Grundy High School.

Coleen is an optical assistant and our patient communications coordinator. She will help you select and purchase glasses as well as remind you of appointments and gather essential information to help you appointment go smoothly. She and her husband have three amazing children. Coleen enjoys living life to the fullest – and in her spare time she enjoys reading, dancing, loves music and spending time with her family and friends.

Morgan Cline is a Clinical Optician at Virginia Eyecare Clinic. She prepares our patients for the doctor and continues with the patient through their experience in optical. She is cross trained to check patients in and out, as well as to provide insurance support.
